High School with a Higher Purpose

The Chesterton Academy of St. James is a new, independent classical Catholic high school in Menlo Park, CA. Inspired by the beauty and richness of the Catholic faith, Chesterton Academy of St. James seeks to form young men and women to be joyful saints. By introducing them to great thinkers such as Socrates, Thomas Aquinas and Dante, and by forming them in a distinctly Catholic culture, we lead students to choose for themselves the adventure of being a disciple of Christ.

A Quick Look

Campus Location

  • The school is located at the historic Archbishop's Residence, situated on the beautiful grounds of St. Patrick's Seminary and University.

  • Built in the latter half of the 19th century, this beautiful building is an ideal location to form the school’s students in the beauty, truth, and goodness of the Catholic faith.

  • At the heart of the house is a small chapel for adoration and prayer. The first floor parlor, dining room, and veranda will host seminars and classes. Mature oaks and shrubs surround the building, and soccer and baseball fields are just a few steps away.

Rooted in Faith

  • Part of the Chesterton Schools Network founded by Dale Ahlquist and Tom Bengston of Minneapolis.

  • Each faculty and staff member takes the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium at the beginning of the academic year.

  • Daily Mass is the foundation of each school day.

  • Curriculum inspired by G.K. Chesterton’s approach to faith and reason.

  • Catholic theology integrated into each subject.

"Truth, Beauty and Goodness, this is what a classically liberal Catholic education is all about. In my experience, schools like the new Chesterton Academy of St. James form souls capable of withstanding the acid bath of the culture we are in because they fire the imagination to perceive the spiritual realities underlying our material world. Kudos to the Chesterton Academy of St. James for bringing this option to teens and parents on the Peninsula."
