Our Board Members


Derek Kulda, Chair

Derek Kulda is committed to building an abundance-minded culture in the Bay Area through Catholic K-12 education, jobs and housing. He founded Kulda and 7 Sons Construction and St. Joseph’s Design, a land development company. He has 20 years of new construction experience, headlining the building of 20 new homes and 3 large commercial retail/office buildings. A Bay Area resident since 1988, Derek and his wife Juliette have raised 10 kids and founded the Kulda Group, a nationally ranked top residential real estate sales team. 

Juliette Kulda, Vice-Chair

Juliette Kulda originally hails from Peoria, Illinois. From the age of 10, she worked in, and eventually managed, one of her family's Italian restaurants. She attended the Trivium School in Massachusetts and Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, California. She has been married to Derek Kulda since 1992, and they have two daughters and eight sons. Juliette and her family have been parishioners at Our Lady of the Pillar in Half Moon Bay, where they have been active in evangelization and forming school co- operatives. She has been a California licensed realtor since 2003 and is the Lead Agent for the top- ranked Kulda Group at Keller Williams Realty. 

John Dooling, Secretary

John is an attorney and serves as General Counsel for a group of national construction and engineering companies.  He was previously a shareholder in a national law firm where he acted as outside general counsel for various construction, engineering and real estate companies and defended design professionals and attorneys under their professional liability policies.  John is married (Eileen, also a board member) and father to their joyful 12-year-old daughter.  He has served on various non-profit boards, including The Olympic Club (Vice President 2012), The Pomeroy Center (Board Chair 2017-2019), the Jesuit Retreat Center and is a Knight of Magisterial Grace in the Order of Malta.  John enjoys reading, exercising, playing golf, and most importantly worshiping and serving our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church.

Michael Birdsall, MA, Treasurer

Mike Birdsall, MA - Treasurer

Mike Birdsall is a husband of 18 years and a father to 7 children ages 2-15. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, he attended Marin Catholic High School. He received a BA in Philosophy and an MA in Accounting from Gonzaga University. Following his father, he has been in construction finance for about 14 years and is currently a Vice President of Finance in the construction industry. He is passionate about his faith and classical education. In his free time, he enjoys bourbon and soccer (both his own children’s and professional games).

Eileen Buckley Dooling

Eileen enjoyed an extensive career in IT after graduating from Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. She specialized in the conversion and implementation of large-scale mainframe systems to real-time Enterprise Resource Planning systems across many industries from fashion to investment banking, finance, manufacturing, mail order catalog management, Wall Street and the movie industry. She also served for several years on the Banner of Love Gala Committee for the Janet Pomeroy Center in San Francisco. She has been deeply involved in faithful Catholic education and homeschooling and is a full time Mother, the vocation she loves the most! Eileen is married to fellow board member John Dooling.

Lyra Rufino-Maceda, MALS, MALD, JD

Lyra brings a passion for faithful Catholic education, volunteer teaching experience, and service as a member of various educational non-profit boards (Canyon Heights Academy, the Zephyr Institute, Philippine International Aid, Georgetown) to the Chesterton Academy of St. James. She serves as a catechist for Nativity, Menlo Park. She is a member of the Order of Malta and the Marian Catechist Apostolate. Lyra and her husband Manny have been married for 34 years and have 4 children. 

Michael Stallman

Michael is a Bay Area native and a graduate of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. He has worked as a design engineer at Apple for thirteen years. He and his wife live in San Mateo with their five children and are active at St. Catherine and Immaculate Heart of Mary parishes. He has served on the parent advisory board at his children’s Catholic school and has sung with the St. Ann choir.
